Enrique Tortell's native language is Spanish. He has extensive expertise advising clients on cross-border estate law issues involving both German and Spanish estate law, the purchase and sale of real estate in Spain, and the incorporation of companies in Spain. He benefits from an excellent network of Spanish partner firms and tax advisors. Enrique Tortell studied law at the University of Frankfurt am Main and also holds a "Master en Estudios Europeos" from the University of Barcelona. After graduating from law school, Enrique Tortell first worked for a major international law firm and in 2000 founded the law firm of Tortell. In 2017 he founded Tortell Smeets & Lange together with Dr. Peter Smeets and Edouard Lange.

Dr. Peter Smeets is a founding partner of the law firm of Tortell Smeets & Lange. Clients appreciate his extensive and long expertise in the areas of asset finance, structured finance, M&A, and private equity and venture capital. In addition, Peter Smeets is licensed by the Federal Financial Services Regulatory Authority (BaFin) to manage a financial institution and advises financial services providers in compliance and regulatory matters at the management level.
Peter Smeets studied law at the University of Frankfurt am Main and received his doctorate from the University of Konstanz. After graduating from law school he began his career in 1995 working for the renowned law firm of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. At the beginning of 2001, he founded his own law firm, Smeets Haas Wolff, which merged with the international law firm of Paul Hastings in 2008. From 2008 until 2015 Peter Smeets managed the Frankfurt office of Paul Hastings and was a member of the firm's global management committee. In 2017 he founded the law firm of Tortell Smeets & Lange together with Enrique Tortell and Edouard Lange.

Edouard Lange is a partner of the law firm of Tortell Smeets & Lange. His clients benefit from his many years of experience with strategic issues involving all areas of corporate finance, the analysis and optimization of existing financing solutions, and the implementation of all types of equity capital and debt capital financing. His legal practice focuses on clients in the areas of structured finance, including structured real estate loans, export and project financing, acquisition financing, and the securitization of loan receivables and trade payables.
Edouard Lange studied law at the University of Frankfurt am Main and the University of Paris X Nanterre. In 2003 he began his career at Smeets Haas Wolff, and from 2008 until 2017 he was a partner at Paul Hastings in Frankfurt. Since fall 2017 he has been a partner at Tortell Smeets & Lange.

Judith Lucius is a board-certified attorney for employment law and insurance law. In the area of employment law she advises private individuals as well as German and international companies on all issues of employment and labor law. In the area of insurance law she counsels German and international clients on almost all issues that may arise under insurance laws or regulations. She has special expertise drafting terms and conditions of insurance and other documents related to contracts of insurance. Her clients also appreciate her extensive and long litigation experience.
Judith Lucius studied law at the Justus-Liebig University of Gießen and since 2000 has worked first for the law firm of Tortell and later the law firm of Tortell Smeets & Lange. In addition, she was a lecturer at a German business school in the years 2000 through 2007. She is a member of the work groups employment law and insurance law of the Association of German Attorneys. In addition, she is a management board member and manager of the non-profit organizations VES and StartKlar.

The focus of Kristina Rickert's legal practice is commercial and corporate law, as well as estate law.
She studied law at the University of Würzburg and, in addition, studied European law at the University of Würzburg and the University of Galway, Ireland. As part of her federal law clerkship she was stationed in Tel Aviv, Israel. After graduating from law school she first worked as a contract lawyer in a notary's office. Since 2018 she has worked for the law firm of Tortell Smeets & Lange.

AttorneyDR. FELIX M. MICHL
Felix Michl practices general civil law specializing in art law. In this area he advises clients on issues arising under contract law, corporate law, and estate law, as well as on intellectual property issues. In all of the aforementioned areas he also represents the interests of his clients in court. He is a professor at SRH University Heidelberg, where he heads the bachelor's program in business law. Another focus of his legal practice is the area of Banking and Finance.
Felix Michl studied law and European art history at the University of Heidelberg. He spent part of his federal law clerkship working in Tokyo, Japan. At the University of Heidelberg he also wrote his doctoral thesis on legal issues arising in connection with contemporary photography. He is a member of the German-Japanese Association of Lawyers (DJJV), the Institute for Art and Law (IFKUR), and the German Photography Association (DGPh). At the latter, he is a member of the management board section for "art, market, and law." Since 2017 he has worked as a freelancer for Tortell Smeets & Lange.
